Jalapeno på Reffen

Jalapeño

Spicy, juicy, and packed with Mexican flavors

As the name suggests, Jalapeño focuses on Mexican cuisine – specifically tacos, burritos, and Mexican bowls.

The man behind these bold Mexican flavors is Juan Alvarez, who comes from the city of Guadalajara in western Mexico. For the past 23 years, he has lived in Denmark, where he has opened several Mexican and Argentine eateries. His mission has been to introduce Danes to the richness of Latin American cuisine and show that Mexican food is much more than Tex-Mex.

It’s no exaggeration to say that Juan knows exactly how a proper taco or burrito should taste – something we now get to enjoy at Reffen.

The tortillas for both tacos and burritos at Jalapeño are freshly made on-site using a machine – like Juan himself – from Guadalajara. Naturally, they are made with corn flour, just like in Mexico.

Outside the stall, the meat is first grilled over an open flame to give it a smoky flavor, then braised for hours before ending up in burritos, bowls, or on top of tacos, finished with onions, coriander, and lime.

The menu features four staple tacos – including a vegetarian option – as well as a weekly taco special, and of course Jalapeño also serves guacamole and homemade salsas.
