BaabaJaaga

Asian street food with a Slavic soul and fire in every bite

BaabaJaaga takes its name from Baba Yaga — a powerful female figure from Slavic folklore, guardian of the forest and protector of the fire. A perfect inspiration for a kitchen where flames and glowing coals take center stage.

At BaabaJaaga, Julijs Breitmanis tends the fire, burning in a brick grill reminiscent of a Japanese yakitori grill. Skewers sizzle over the coals, fat meets embers, and smoke infuses sweet soy glazes and bold marinades.

The food combines Asian techniques with Julijs Breitmanis’ Slavic roots: marinades, tangy pickles, and simple, honest ingredients shaped by heat, smoke, and flame.

Julijs has worked in restaurants in both Asia and Europe and has also run a street food stall at Camden Market in London. Now he brings all his experience to BaabaJaaga at Reffen, where fire is the natural – and blazing – centerpiece.

Signature dish: Robata skewers Combo
Three skewers from the grill with yuzu–jalapeño egg salad, charred corn and house pickles.
