Fastelavn for Kids

Fastelavn* is all about play, imagination, and community—and at Reffen, we make it all a little bigger, a little cozier, and a lot more fun.
This Fastelavn, we invite children and families to a whole day filled with creativity, warm bonfires, costumes, and, of course, barrel beating at child height.
Early in the day, you can help decorate the Fastelavn barrels, which will later be hung up in Werkstatt, and in our Fastelavn workshop, children can make their own Fastelavncats, barrels, and masks. The barrels are painted according to age, so everyone can join in, from the youngest to the older children.
Face painter Tanja is ready to transform the children into everything from cats to superheroes. Only the imagination sets the limits. Along the way, a juggler will stop by with balloon animals, and of course we will also be visited by our mascot, Reffi the Fox, who will spread extra Fastelavn joy.
When the barrels are ready, we will begin the highlight of the day: hitting the cat off the barrel – divided by age so that everyone has a safe and fun experience. And of course, we will crown both cat kings and cat queens along the way, so there are crowns, honors, and candy at stake.
Barrel hitting program:
0–4 years: 12:30–1:30 p.m.
5–8 years: 1:30–2:30 p.m.
9–13 years: 2:30–3:30 p.m.
Our Mini Club concept will also be running all day, offering space for both quiet contemplation and wild laughter. Children can warm up by the fire with free popcorn and s'mores while letting their imaginations run wild inside the Werkstatt.
It will be a day full of color, imagination, and shared laughter—Fastelavn as it should be. We look forward to welcoming young and old alike to a playful and cozy Fastelavn at Reffen.

2:30–3:30 p.m.: Barrel beating for ages 9–13 in the sand area
2:30–3:30 p.m.: Vibes' Wild Children's Rave in the sand area
*What is Fastelavn?
Fastelavn is a traditional Nordic celebration, similar to a children’s carnival. It’s a playful day filled with costumes, creativity and community, where children dress up, sing songs and take part in the classic tradition of “beating the barrel” to become Cat King or Cat Queen.
